Welcome to jakmac.net!

My name is Jesse Kennedy, and I am a graduate of the Computer Engineering Technician - Mechatronic Systems program at Mohawk College. I deployed this web server to showcase the technical skills and knowledge I acquired during my time at Mohawk College. Please use the navigation buttons above or scroll down to learn more about my experience.

About Me

My first exposure to engineering was through my hobby of playing guitar. I became fascinated with how electric guitars, amplifiers, and effects pedals worked. This curiosity sparked my passion for engineering, as I began taking apart my gear to understand its inner workings and eventually repairing it when it broke. Driven by this knack for fixing electronics, I decided to enroll at Mohawk College to turn my passion into a career. While at Mohawk, I've gathered lots of knowledge and skills. This includes computer networking, programming in several languages, circuit analysis and lots of other skills in my project portfolio.

Project Portfolio

Project 01: Colour Sensor with Stepper Motor Colour Wheel

Designed and calibrated a colour sensor to detect black, white, and 6 colours (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Purple). This culminating project for my microcontroller class proves my ability to use the skills and knowledge I've learned to create and troubleshoot complex mechatronic systems.

The colour sensor is built out of a black PVC tube with a light depentant resistor (LDR) and RGB LED inside of it. Once a object is placed infront of the sesnor, the user must use the IR remote the start the scan. The scan of the object consists of flashing each of the three LEDs (red, green, and blue). On each flash the reflected light reading on the LDR is sent to the microcontroller using its built in analog to digital converter (ADC).

Equipment Used: AVR128db48 MPU | 28BYJ-48 Stepper Motor | ULN2003 Driver IC | 16x2 LCD HMI | LDR | RGB LEDs | PVC Pipe | Soldering Iron | IR Reciver & Remote

Skills: Emmeded C Programming | Motor Control | Soldering | Circuit Analysis | Troubleshooting

Project 02: Web Server for Jakmac.net

Implemented a web server to host this website using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) provided by OVHcloud. Passwordless SSH was configured to provide secure access to the server. This website provides a good platform to present my skills and experience as well as show my ability in implementing and maintaining a server. Cloudflare was used for DNS management and to ensure the secure protocol HTTPS is used to protect the server and users accessing the site.

Tools Used: SSH | VPS from OVH Cloud | PuTTY | Cloudfare

Skills: HTML & CSS Programming | Networking | Server Implementation
